Brief from the Higher Institute of Rural Development

The Higher Institute for Rural Development (ISDR) in Mbaïki is the only public institution of higher education in the field of rural development, now placed under the supervision of the University of Bangui. It was created in 1973 after several changes, University Institute of Agronomic Technology (IUTA) in 1969, Foundation for Higher Education in Central Africa (FESAC) in 1972 and is located 110 km from Bangui in the south of the CAR and has 240 ha of exploitable land.

With an average enrollment of 250 students per year (all sectors combined), the Institute delivers diplomas of Higher Technician Certificates (BTS), Professional Licenses and Design Engineers in the fields of Agriculture, Water and Forests and Livestock. It has around twenty (20) permanent teachers and around forty (40) temporary staff.

The ISDR's mission, in addition to the training of executives, is the retraining of the various actors in the development of the agro-pastoral world and its participation in various development research activities

Administrative organization and student recruitment

The ISDR is composed of a Directorate, a Directorate of Studies, Four (4) Departments (Agriculture, Water and Forests, Livestock, Exploitation and Environment and Sustainable Development in the process of being created). The following services are attached to the Directorate:

The recruitment of students (for both sexes) is done by competitive examination for new baccalaureate holders (Series, C, D and D'), holders of BTS and Professional Licenses first years (LP1) and on title (after study files) for the Engineering Cycle (holders of Licenses in Plant Biology, Animal Biology, Water Quality, Environment). The training period is 2 years for the BTS, 3 years for the Pro License and 3 years for the Design Engineers.

In addition, the number of places is limited in relation to the dormitory (boarding school) and the specific food costs allocated weekly by the Central African State (budgetary constraints).
